Then the LORD said unto Abram, "Get thee out of thy country and from thy kindred; and out of thy father's house, into a land which I will show thee. And I will make of thee a mighty people, and will bless thee, and make thy name great, that thou mayst be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee. And in thee shall be blessed all the generations of the earth."
that I will bless thee and multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven and as the sand upon the sea side. And thy seed shall possess the gates of his enemies.
To Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, "in the seeds," as in many: But, "in thy seed," as in one, which is Christ.
For the promise that he should be heir of the world was not given to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law: but through the righteousness which cometh of faith.
For if the inheritance come of the law, it cometh not of promise: but God gave it unto Abraham by promise.
Yea, and he which was of the bondwoman, was born after the flesh: but he which was of the freewoman, was born by promise.

and he gave him none inheritance in it - no, not the breadth of a foot - But promised that he would give it to him to possess and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

For if they which are of the law be heirs, then is faith but vain, and the promise of none effect.
Wherefore then serveth the law? The law was added because of transgression - till the seed came, to which the promise was made - and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
Is the law, then, against the promise of God? God forbid. Howbeit, if there had been a law given which could have given life: then no doubt righteousness should have come by the law.
But the scripture concluded all things under sin, that the promise by the faith of Jesus Christ should be given unto them that believe.
So God, willing very abundantly to show, unto the heirs of promise, the stableness of his counsel; he added an oath,
But he whose kindred is not counted among them, received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
By faith he removed into the land that was promised him, as into a strange country, and dwelt in tabernacles: and so did Isaac, and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.
Through faith Sarah also received strength to be with child, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful which had promised.
By faith Abraham offered up Isaac, when he was tempted, and he offered him being his only begotten son, which had received the promises:
that is to say; They which are the children of the flesh, are not the children of God. But the children of promise are counted the seed.
