But he that prophesieth, speaketh to men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown language edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. I would that ye all spoke in languages, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh in languages, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.


All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.



Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.
