They retorted, "If He were not a criminal, we would not have turned Him over to you."

Pilate had a placard written and had it put over the cross: "JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS." Many of the Jews read this placard, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. As Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it were some misdemeanor or underhanded rascality, O Jews, I would in reason listen to you; but as it is questions about words and titles and your own law, you will have to see to it yourselves.
