John did baptise in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins.
In those days John the Baptist came, and preached in the wilderness of Jewry, saying, "Repent: the kingdom of heaven is at hand." This is he of whom it is spoken by the Prophet Isaiah, which sayeth, "The voice of a crier in wilderness, 'Prepare the Lord's way and make his paths straight.'"
When Annas and Caiaphas were the high priests: The word of God came unto John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness. And he came into all the coasts about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,

And he called the twelve, and began to send them, two and two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.
Then called he the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and that they might heal diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to cure the sick.
When they were come together, they asked of him, saying, "Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?" And he said unto them, "It is not for you to know the times, or the seasons which the father hath put in his own power: but ye shall receive power of the holy ghost which shall come on you.
