Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner."

But the Pharisees and the experts in the law were complaining, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."

And when Jesus came to that place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down quickly, because I must stay at your house today." So he came down quickly and welcomed Jesus joyfully. And when the people saw it, they all complained, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner."


But the Pharisees and the experts in the law were complaining, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."


When the Pharisees saw this they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

But when the Pharisees saw this they said to him, "Look, your disciples are doing what is against the law to do on the Sabbath."

"Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don't wash their hands when they eat."

When the experts in the law and the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

And they saw that some of Jesus' disciples ate their bread with unclean hands, that is, unwashed.

And when the people saw it, they all complained, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner."

Then the Jews who were hostile to Jesus began complaining about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven,"

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through it. Now a man named Zacchaeus was there; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to get a look at Jesus, but being a short man he could not see over the crowd. read more.
So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, because Jesus was going to pass that way. How can he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" Jesus replied, "Do not complain about me to one another.
