thou lovest righteousness and hatest iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thine associates."
Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made this very Jesus, whom ye crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Now the Lord, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
But hereafter shall the Son of man be seated on the right hand of the power of God.
Him hath God exalted with his right hand as a prince and saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins:
which He exerted in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at his own right hand in heavenly places,
Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name above every name:
saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.

and began to tell them, that the Son of man must suffer much; and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes; and be put to death: and after three days rise again.
And as soon as it was morning all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, how to get Him executed: so they bound Him and led Him away, and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate the Roman governor.
And when He was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him as He was teaching, and said, By what authority dost thou these things, and who gave thee this authority?
And as soon as ever it was light the chief priests holding a consultation with the elders and scribes, they and the whole sanhedrim, bound Jesus, and carried Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate.
Now the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people were then assembled together into the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas: and were consulting how they might take Jesus by treachery and put Him to death. But they said, Not on the feast-day, least there should be a tumult among the people.
Then all the disciples deserted Him and fled. And they, that apprehended Jesus, led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled: and Peter followed Him at a distance, to the high-priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, that he might see the issue. Now the chief priests and elders, and the whole council sought false-witness against Jesus, that they might put Him to death: but found none. read more.
And tho' many false witnesses came, they found none to their purpose. But at last came two false witnesses and said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. And the high priest stood up and said to Him, Dost thou make no answer? what do these men testify against thee? but Jesus made no reply. Then the high priest said to Him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us, if thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus saith unto him, It is as thou hast said: and I tell you, hereafter ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy, what need have we more of witnesses? now ye have heard his blasphemy, what think ye? and they answered, He ought to be put to death. Then did they spit in his face, and beat Him about the head; and some struck Him with rods, saying, Divine to us, thou Christ, who it is that smote thee.

And they laid their hands on Him, and apprehended Him. And one of those that were present, drawing a sword, struck at the high priest's servant, and took off his ear. And Jesus said unto them, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and clubs to take me? I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye did not seize me: but this is done that the scriptures may be fulfilled. And the disciples all forsook Him and fled: but there followed Him a certain youth, who had only a linen cloth wrapt about him, and the young men laid hold on him; and he let go the linen cloth, and fled from them naked. And they led Jesus away to the high priest, with whom were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. And Peter followed Him at a distance, even into the palace of the high priest: and sat down among the servants, and warmed himself at the fire. Now the chief priests and all the council sought for evidence against Jesus, to put Him to death, and found none: for many bare false witness against Him, and the evidences did not agree. At last there rose up some and bare false witness against Him, saying, We heard Him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands: but neither was their evidence consistent. Then the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus saying, Answerest thou nothing? what do these men witness against thee? but he held his peace, and made him no answer. So the high priest asked Him again, and saith to Him, Art thou the Messiah the Son of the blessed God? And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes and said, What farther need have we of witnesses? ye have heard the blasphemy; what think ye? and they all condemned Him as worthy of death. And they spit upon Him, and blind-folded Him, and then buffeted Him and said to Him, prophesy who it was: and the officers struck him with their rods.

Then said Jesus to the chief priests, and officers of the temple, and elders, that were come to Him, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and clubs? When I was day after day with you in the temple, ye did not stretch out your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. Then they took Him and led Him away, and brought Him to the high priest's. And Peter followed at a distance. read more.
And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and sat down together, Peter also sat down among them: and a servant-maid seeing him as he sat by the fire, and looking hard at him, said, This fellow was also with Him: But he denied Him, saying, Woman, I do not know Him. And after a little while another person seeing him said, And thou art one of them: but Peter said, Man, I am not. And about an hour after, another confidently affirmed saying, In truth this fellow also was with Him; for he is a Galilean too: but Peter answered, Man, I know not what thou sayst. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, the cock crew. And the Lord turned and looked upon Peter; and Peter called to mind the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, Before the cock crow thou wilt deny me thrice. And Peter went out and wept bitterly. And the men that laid hold on Jesus, insulted and abused Him; and when they had blind-folded Him, they struck Him on the face, and asked Him, saying, Prophesy who it was that smote thee. And many other things spake they against Him, blaspheming Him. And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people, and chief-priests, and scribes, assembled together, and ordered Him up into their council: and said to Him, Art thou the Messiah? tell us. And He said unto them, If I should tell you, ye would not believe: and if I should put any question to you, ye would not answer me, nor discharge me. But hereafter shall the Son of man be seated on the right hand of the power of God. And they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And He said unto them, I am. And they said, What need have we of any farther evidence? when we ourselves have it from his own mouth?

And while they were speaking to the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the sadducees came upon them, being vexed that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. But many of them who heard the word, believed: and the number of the men was about five thousand. And on the morrow their rulers, and elders, and scribes were gathered together at Jerusalem: and with them Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked them, By what power, or in what name have ye done this? Then Peter filled with the holy Spirit said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, if we are this day examined about the benefit done to the impotent man, by what means he is cured, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, but whom God hath raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone that was set at nought by you builders, which is become the head of the corner. And there is salvation in no other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we can be saved. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were plain and illiterate men, they were amazed; and they knew them again that they had been with Jesus: but seeing the man that was cured standing with them, they had nothing to say against it. Therefore they ordered them to withdraw from the council, and conferred among themselves, saying, What shall we do with these men? for that indeed an evident miracle hath been wrought by them is manifest to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But that it may spread no farther among the people, let us severely charge them to speak no more to any man in this name. So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered them, and said, Whether it be right in the sight of God to obey you rather than God, judge ye: for we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. So they threatened them more severely, and let them go; not finding how to punish them, because of the people: for they all glorified God for that which was done.

And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes; and they came upon him, and forced him along with them, and brought him to the council: and they set up false witnesses; who said, This man is continually speaking blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law. For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and change the rites which Moses delivered to us. For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and change the rites which Moses delivered to us. And he said, "Brethren and fathers, hearken,---The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, and said to him, Depart from thy native country and from thy kindred, and come into the country which I shall shew thee. read more.
Then he came out of the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, after his father died, He removed him into this land in which ye now dwell: though He gave him no inheritance in it, no not the breadth of a foot; but He promised to give it to him for a possession, even to his seed after him; though he had then no child." And God spake thus unto him, "that his seed should sojourn in a strange country, and they shall in slave and abuse them four hundred years:" and God said, "I will judge the nation, to which they shall be in slavery; and afterwards they shall come out, and shall worship me in this place." And He gave him the covenant of circumcision: and he begat Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs. And the patriarchs, envying him, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he appointed him governor over Egypt, and over all his houshold. And there came a famine over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction; and our fathers could not find sustenance. But Jacob hearing that there was corn in Egypt, sent out our fathers first: and at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known to Pharaoh. Then Joseph sent for his father Jacob, and all his kindred, even seventy-five souls. So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died there, he and our fathers: and were carried to Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre which he had bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. But as the time of the promise drew near, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt. Till another king arose, who knew not Joseph. This king formed crafty schemes against our nation, and oppressed our fathers, causing their children to be exposed, that their race might be extinguished. In which time Moses was born, who was exceeding beautiful, and he was nourished up in his father's house three months: and when he was exposed, Pharaoh's daughter took him up and nourished him for her own son. And Moses was trained up in all the wisdom of the Egyptians: and he was mighty in words, and in deeds. And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. And seeing one of them injured he defended him, and smiting the Egyptian he avenged him that was wronged. Now he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would give them deliverance by his hand: but they understood not. And the next day he came to them, as they were two of them fighting, and would have persuaded them to agree, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren, why do ye injure one another? But he, that injured his neighbor, thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? Wilt thou kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian yesterday? Upon this Moses fled, and became a sojourner in the land of Midian, where he begat two sons. And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina, an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. Now Moses, when he saw it, was amazed at the sight; and as he came near to observe it, there was a voice of the Lord to him, saying, "I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;" but Moses trembling durst not look on. And the Lord said to him, "Take off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place on which thou standest is holy ground. I have seen the oppression of my people that are in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. Therefore come now, and I will send thee into Egypt." This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? did God send, by the hand of the angel that appeared to him in the bush, to be their ruler and deliverer. And he brought them out, performing wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the red sea, and in the wilderness, forty years. ---This is that Moses who said unto the children of Israel, "A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you, of your brethren, like unto me; Him shall ye hear." This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel that spake to him on mount Sinai, and with our fathers; and who received the oracles of life to give unto us. To whom our fathers would not be subject, but renounced him, and in their hearts turned back into Egypt, saying to Aaron, Make us gods to go before us; for as to this Moses, who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him. And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. Then God turned away, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets, "O house of Israel, did ye offer to me your victims and sacrifices, for the space of forty years in the wilderness? yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them by: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon." The tabernacle of witness was among our fathers in the wilderness, as He, that spake unto Moses, ordered him to make it according to the model which he had seen in the mount: and which our fathers receiving, they with Joshua, brought into the territory of the nations, whom God drove out from before the face of our fathers, till the days of David, who found favor in the sight of God, and was desirous to provide an habitation for the God of Jacob. But Solomon built Him an house. Though the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands, as the prophet saith, "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what house will ye build for me, saith the Lord, or what is the place of my rest? hath not my hand made all these things?" --- Ye stiff-necked, and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye. Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and slew those who prophesied concerning the coming of that righteous One, of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers; who received the law by the ministration of angels, and yet have not kept it. And when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart and gnashed their teeth at him. But he being full of the holy Spirit looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God: and he said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God. Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, and cast him out of the city and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man, whose name was Saul. And they stoned Stephen calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

And the servants and officers stood there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold, and were warming themselves: and Peter was standing with them and warming himself. The high-priest therefore asked Jesus concerning his disciples, and his doctrine.
