When the evening was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was a disciple of Jesus. which he had hewn out in the rock, and having rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, departed. And Mary Magdalene was there and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre. Now the next day that followed the day of the preparation the chief priests and Pharisees came together to Pilate, Saying, Sir, we remember, that impostor said while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. Command therefore that the sepulchre be secured till the third day, lest his disciples coming steal him away, and say to the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last imposture shall be worse than the first. Pilate said to them, Ye have a guard; go, make it as secure as ye can. So they went and secured the sepulchre, sealing the stone, and setting a guard.

And the evening being now come, (because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath) Joseph of Arimathea, an honourable counsellor, who also waited for the kingdom of God, came and went in boldly to Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus. And Pilate marvelled that he was dead already: and calling to him the centurion, he asked, If he had been any while dead? read more.
And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. And having bought fine linen, he took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre, which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone to the door of the sepulchre. And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses, beheld where he was laid.

And taking it down, he wrapped it in fine linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. And the women who had come with him from Galilee, following after, beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. And returning they prepared spices and ointments, and rested the sabbath, according to the commandment.

Now because it was the preparation, lest the bodies should remain upon the cross on the sabbath (for that sabbath was a great day) the Jews besought Pilate, that their legs might be broken, and they might be taken away. Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with him. But coming to Jesus, when they saw he was dead already, they brake not his legs. read more.
But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and forthwith there came out blood and water. And he that saw, hath testified it, and his testimony is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye may believe. For these things were done, that the scripture might be fulfilled, A bone of it shall not be broken. And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they have pierced. And after these things, Joseph of Arimathea (being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews) asked Pilate leave, to take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore and took the body of Jesus. And Nicodemus also came (who at first had come to Jesus by night) bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pounds. So they took the body of Jesus, and wrapped it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. Now in the place where he was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new sepulchre, in which no man had ever been laid. There therefore they laid Jesus, because of the preparation -day of the Jews; for the sepulchre was nigh.
