And Jesus answering said as he was teaching in the temple, How do the scribes say that the Christ is son of David?

and, assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.

And his disciples demanded of him saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first have come?



And when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonders which he wrought, and the children crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were indignant,

But certain of the scribes were there sitting, and reasoning in their hearts, Why does this man thus speak? he blasphemes. Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?


And they roused the people, and the elders, and the scribes. And coming upon him they seized him and brought him to the council.

And it came to pass on the morrow that their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together at Jerusalem,

And having called them, they charged them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.


And one of them, a lawyer, demanded, tempting him, and saying,

And one of the scribes who had come up, and had heard them reasoning together, perceiving that he had answered them well, demanded of him, Which is the first commandment of all?


Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together to the palace of the high priest who was called Caiaphas,

And the chief priests and the scribes stood and accused him violently.



And they were astonished at his doctrine, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.


Where is the wise? where scribe? where disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?


And he said to them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and salutations in the marketplaces, and first seats in the synagogues, and first places at suppers;


Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye compass the sea and the dry land to make one proselyte, and when he is become such, ye make him twofold more the son of hell than yourselves.




And there was a great clamour, and the scribes of the Pharisees' part rising up contended, saying, We find nothing evil in this man; and if a spirit has spoken to him, or an angel ...


And the scribes and the Pharisees bring to him a woman taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,
