And, while He was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as He was reclining at table, there came a woman having an alabaster cruse of ointment of pure spikenard, very costly; and, having broken the cruse, she was pouring it down on His bead. But there were some who were much displeased among themselves, saying, "To what purpose has this waste of the ointment been made? For this ointment could have been sold for above three hundred denaries, and given to the poor!" And they were murmuring against her.

Mary, therefore, having taken a pound of ointment of pure spikenard, very costly, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was about to betray Him, says, "Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred denaries, and given to the poor?"
