I establish my covenant with you: Never again will the waters of a flood destroy all life. Never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.

by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished. According to the same word, the heavens that now are, and the earth, are reserved for fire, being kept for the Day of Judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
