And under the custody and charge of the sons of Merari shall be the boards of the tabernacle and the bars thereof and the pillars thereof and the sockets thereof and all the instruments thereof, with all its service, and the pillars of the court round about and their sockets and their stakes and their cords. Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, from thirty years old and upward until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do work in the tabernacle of the testimony.
And these are those that were numbered of the Levites by their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites. These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Kohath begat Amram. And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, daughter of Levi, whom her mother bore to Levi in Egypt: and she bore unto Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam, their sister. read more.
