Thematic Bible: Of appetite

Thematic Bible

Peninnah would behave this way year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the Lord's house, Peninnah would upset her so that she would weep and refuse to eat.

But he refused, saying, "I won't eat!" Both his servants and the woman urged him to eat, so he gave in. He got up from the ground and sat down on the bed.

They lost their appetite for all food, and they drew near the gates of death.

We remember the fish we used to eat freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.

A laborer's appetite works on his behalf, for his hunger urges him to work.

From the fruit of a person's mouth his stomach is satisfied, with the product of his lips is he satisfied.

and put a knife to your throat if you possess a large appetite.

You will say, "They have struck me, but I am not harmed! They beat me, but I did not know it! When will I awake? I will look for another drink."

All of man's labor is for nothing more than to fill his stomach -- yet his appetite is never satisfied!

It will be like a hungry man dreaming that he is eating, only to awaken and find that his stomach is empty. It will be like a thirsty man dreaming that he is drinking, only to awaken and find that he is still weak and his thirst unquenched. So it will be for the horde from all the nations that fight against Mount Zion.

Each one says, 'Come on, I'll get some wine! Let's guzzle some beer! Tomorrow will be just like today! We'll have everything we want!'
