When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was also baptized. And as he was praying, the heaven was opened Verse ConceptsJohn The BaptistThe Act Of OpeningOpening HeavenBaptised By JohnChrist's BaptismJesus PrayingBaptismTrinity

When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. Verse ConceptsLooking HeavenwardRelationship Of Father And SonThe Father's Activity Regarding ChristWe Thank God

And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done."

But the report went around concerning him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities. But he often withdrew to the wilderness and prayed.

And after he had left them, he went up on the mountain to pray. When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on land.

Now it happened that as he was praying alone his disciples were with him; and he asked them, "Who do the crowds say that I am?" He was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. read more.
And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.'" And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; and he will answer from within, 'Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything'? I tell you, though he will not get up and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs. So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Then he told them a parable, to show that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said: "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' read more.
For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her justice, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.'" And the Lord said, "Hear what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you that he will bring about justice for them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"
