When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee; and put a knife to thy throat if thou art a man given to appetite. Do not be desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food. read more.
Do not labour to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon riches which are not? For they shall certainly make themselves wings; they shall fly away as an eagle toward heaven. Do not eat the bread of anyone who has an evil eye, neither desire his dainty foods; for as he thinks in his soul, so is he; Eat and drink, he shall say unto thee, but his heart is not with thee. Didst thou eat thy part? Thou shalt vomit it up and lose thy sweet words.


Do not be envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them. For their heart studies robbery, and their lips speak evil.

Keep thyself that there not be a thought of Belial in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother to give him nothing; for he shall cry unto the LORD against thee, and it shall be a sin unto thee.

They search out iniquities; they perfect and put into effect that which they have invented in the inward thought of each one of them and that which they have devised in their heart.



for as he thinks in his soul, so is he; Eat and drink, he shall say unto thee, but his heart is not with thee.

For I understand their works and their thoughts. The time shall come to gather all the Gentiles and tongues; and they shall come and see my glory.

Do not praise thyself in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of great men; for it is better that it be said unto thee, Come up here than that thou should be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

If any of those that do not believe bid you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you asking no questions for conscience sake.

And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if indeed there is a son of peace there, your peace shall rest upon it; if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

And observing how they chose the first seats at the table, he put forth a parable to those who were invited, saying unto them, When thou art called to a wedding by anyone, do not sit down in the highest place, lest a more honourable man than thou be invited of him, and he that called thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place, and thou begin with shame to have the lowest place. read more.
But when thou art called, go and sit down in the lowest place that when he that invited thee comes, he may say unto thee, Friend, come up higher; then shalt thou have glory in the presence of those that sit at the table with thee. For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.
