Who then is the faithful and prudent servant, whom his lord hath set over his family to give them food in due season? blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so employed: verily I tell you, that he will set him over his whole estate. read more.
But if that servant be wicked and say in his heart, my master delayeth his coming, and begin to beat his fellow-servants, and to revel with drunkards: the lord of that servant will come in a day when he doth not expect him, and in an hour which he knows not, and will cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with hypocrites: where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Let your loins be girt, and your lights burning, and ye yourselves like men waiting for their lord's return from a wedding, that they may immediately open the door to him, when he comes and knocks. Happy are those servants, whom the master when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down, and will come and serve them. read more.
And if he come in the second watch, or in the third watch, and find them so, happy indeed are those servants. And this ye know, that if the master of a house had known at what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broke open: therefore be ye also ready; for the Son of man cometh at a season that ye think not of. Then said Peter unto Him, Lord, dost thou speak this parable to us only, or to all others likewise? And the Lord said, Who is indeed that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his family to give out the measure of food in due season? Happy is that servant, whom his lord, when he cometh, shall find so doing. Verily I tell you, that he will set him over all that he hath. But if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and begin to beat the men and maid-servants, and drink, and to be drunken: the lord of that servant will come on a day in which he does not expect him, and at a time which he is not aware of; and will cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the unfaithful. And that servant, who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself to do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes; but he that knew it not, and did things deserving stripes, shall be beaten with few: for to whomsoever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will demand the more.

But which of you having a servant plowing, or feeding cattle, will say to him, as soon as he comes in from the field, Come hither and sit down at table? But will he not rather say to him, Get ready my supper, and gird thyself, and wait upon me, till I have done, and afterwards thou shalt eat and drink. Is he obliged to that servant for doing what he was ordered?
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered Him, We are the seed of Abraham, and never were slaves to any one, how then dost thou say, Ye shall be made free? I speak after the manner of men, because of the infirmity of your flesh: as ye have yielded your bodies servants to impurity and iniquity to work iniquity; so now present your bodies servants to righteousness, unto holiness. For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit therefore had ye then in the things, which ye are now ashamed of? for the end of those things is death. But now being set free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Wast thou called being a slave, be not anxious about it; but if thou canst be made free, prefer it. For he that is called in the Lord being a slave, is the Lord's freed-man: and he likewise that is called being free is the servant of Christ. Ye are bought with a price, do not become the slaves of men.
