Then said Jesus to him, Put up thy sword into it's place; for they that take the sword shall perish by the sword: dost thou think that I cannot now apply to my Father, and He will send me more than twelve legions of angels?
but was reproved for his transgression: for a dumb beast speaking with the voice of a man checked the madness of the prophet.
For unto this are ye called; because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye might follow his steps. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously.
And the high priest stood up and said to Him, Dost thou make no answer? what do these men testify against thee? but Jesus made no reply. Then the high priest said to Him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us, if thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
Then the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus saying, Answerest thou nothing? what do these men witness against thee? but he held his peace, and made him no answer. So the high priest asked Him again, and saith to Him, Art thou the Messiah the Son of the blessed God?
And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing. Then saith Pilate to Him, Dost thou not hear how many things they witness against thee? but He answered him not one word: so that the governor was much astonished.
So Pilate asked Him again, saying, Dost thou answer nothing? See how many things they witness against thee: but Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate was amazed.
And when He was entered into the ship, his disciples followed Him: and behold a great tempest rose on the sea, so that the vessel was even covered by the waves; but He was asleep. And His disciples came to Him, and awoke Him, saying, Lord save us, for we are perishing: and He saith unto them,read more.
Why are ye so frighted, O ye of little faith? Then He rose up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men wondered, saying, What an amazing person is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him!
So they dismissed the multitude, and took Him as He was in the ship. But there were other small vessels likewise with Him. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now almost full. And He was in the stern asleep on a pillow: and they awake Him, and say unto Him, Master, art thou under no concern that we are perishing?read more.
And He rose and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still; and the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And He said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how! have ye no faith? And they were exceedingly afraid, and said to one another, Who is this? that even the wind and the sea obey Him?
And it came to pass on one of the days that He went into a ship, Himself and his disciples, and He said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake. And they launched forth: but as they were failing, He fell asleep: and a storm of wind came down upon the lake, and they were filled with water, and were in great danger. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, Master, master, we are perishing. Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and there was a calm.read more.
And He said unto them, Where is your faith? But they were struck with awe and amazement, and said one to another, who is this? for He commandeth even the winds and the sea, and they obey Him.
And if the Lord did not shorten those days, none could escape: but for the sake of the elect, whom He hath chosen, He hath shortened those days.
And unless those days be shortened, no one would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be shortened.
And ye know what now hindereth him from being revealed in his own time. For the mystery of iniquity is already working, only there is one that hindreth till he be taken out of the way.
And he seized the dragon, that old serpent, who is the devil and satan, and bound him a thousand years,
I do not pray that Thou wouldest take them out of the world, but that thou wouldest keep them from the evil.
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen."
for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."
saying, Hurt not the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.
The Lord is not slow as to his promise (as some count it slowness) but is long-suffering towards us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
If any among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his heart, this man's devotion is vain.
and if any offend not in word, he is a compleat man, able to manage also the whole body. Behold we put bridles into the mouths of horses, that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body as we please. Behold also the ships which are of so great bulk, and even when they are driven by hard winds, yet are turned about by a very small helm which way soever the pilot pleaseth.read more.
So the tongue is a small part of the body, yet boasteth great things. Behold how much fuel a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our several parts, defiling the whole body, inflaming the course of nature, and is set on fire by hell. For every kind of wild beasts, and birds, and reptiles, and fishes, is tamed and hath been tamed by mankind: but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless God even the Father; and with it we curse men, who are made after the likeness of God: out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. These things, my brethren, ought not so to be. Does a fountain from the same opening send forth sweet water and bitter? Can a fig-tree, my brethren, produce olives, or a vine figs? so can no fountain produce salt water and sweet.
"For he that would desire life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile;
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to obey it in the lusts thereof.
