Every one, therefore, that hears these words of mine and performs them, I will liken to a wise man who built his house on the rock; and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on the rock. Every one that comes to me, and hears my words and does them, I will show you whom he is like. He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid the foundation on the rock; and when there was a flood, the stream beat against that house and could not shake it, because it was built on a rock. But he that hears and does not, is like a man building a house on the earth, without a foundation, against which the stream beat, and it fell immediately; and the ruin of that house was great.
