But he that hears and does not, is like a man building a house on the earth, without a foundation, against which the stream beat, and it fell immediately; and the ruin of that house was great.

And these are those sown in good ground, who hear the word, and receive it, and bear fruit, one thirty, and one sixty, and one a hundred.

I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world beholds me no more; but you shall behold me; because I live, you shall live also. In that day you shall know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; and he that loves me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him. Judas said to him, not the Iscariot, Lord, and how is it that you are about to manifest yourself to us, and not to the world? behold also the ships, though of so great size and driven by powerful winds, are directed by a very small helm wherever the will of the pilot chooses; so also the tongue is a small member and boasts of great things. Behold, how much wood a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, the tongue is made a world of wickedness among our members, it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature and is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beasts, and birds, and reptiles, and fishes, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race, but the tongue can no man tame; it is a disorderly evil, full of a deadly poison. With it bless we the Lord and Father, and with it curse we men made in the likeness of God. Out of the same mouth proceeds a blessing and a curse. My brothers, these things ought not so to be. Does a fountain send forth sweet water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brothers, produce olives, or a vine, figs? So you cannot make salt water sweet.
