We are of good courage, I say, and are willing to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

I am not there with you in person. But I am with you in spirit. I have already judged the man who did this.
My beloved, you have always obeyed, not just in my presence, but now much more in my absence. Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
We make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to him.
Let your manner of life be worthy of the good news about Christ. Whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your conduct, that you stand fast in one spirit (common purpose) (mental disposition) (vital principle), with one mind striving together for the faith of the good news.
Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you.
Let a person like this take this into account: what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such we will also be in deed when we are present.
