But if the unbelieving partner leaves, let him do so; in such a case the brother or sister is not bound. For God has called us to peace.

Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?" And he answered them, "Have you not read that he who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?read more.
So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." They said to him, "Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" He said to them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."
But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, causes her to become an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves are also in the body.
This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building others up according to the need of the moment, that it may impart grace to those who hear.
If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.
From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be so.
Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
