but abhorred my counsel, and despised my correction. Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and be filled with their own counsels:

But he forsook the counsel that the old men had given him, and counselled with the young men that were nourished up with him and had waited on him.

But he left the counsel which the elders gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were nursed up with him and had stand in his presence,

the king answered them cruelly: for king Rehoboam left the counsel of the aged men, and answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, "If my father made your yoke grievous, I will add thereto, and where my father chastised you with whips, I will chastise you with scorpions." And so the king hearkened not unto the people, for the turning away was of God, that the LORD might make good his saying which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

but all my counsels have ye despised and set my corrections to naught. Therefore shall I also laugh in your destruction, and mock you, when the thing that ye fear cometh upon you:

Then said they, "Come, let us imagine something against this Jeremiah." Yea, this did even the priests, to whom the law was committed: the Senators, that were the wisest: and the prophets, which wanted not the word of God. "Come," said they, "let us cut out his tongue, and let us not regard his words."

Neverthelater, the under-captain believed the governor, and the master, better than those things which were spoken of Paul.

A poor child being wise, is better than an old king that doteth, and cannot beware in time to come.

Then Jeremiah answered Zedekiah, "If I be plain unto thee, thou wilt cause me suffer death: If I give thee counsel, thou wilt not follow me."
