But ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is prince, as he that doth serve.
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones be made into bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Then the devil left him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Then there arose a dispute among them, which of them should be the greatest. But Jesus, seeing the thoughts of their heart, took a child and set him by him, and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receives me, and whosoever shall receive me receives him that sent me; for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing and love the salutations in the marketplaces and the first chairs in the synagogues and the first seats at the suppers, which devour widows' houses and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater judgment.
Even more than he who is given over to wine, the transposer, the proud man, shall not remain, who enlarges his desire as Sheol and is as death and cannot be satisfied, but gathered unto him all the Gentiles and heaps unto him all the peoples;
