For this cause, I write these things while absent; that I may not, when present, deal sharply according to the authority which the Lord gave me for building up, and not casting down.

For neither was any one among them in want; for as many as were possessors of lands or houses, selling them, were bringing the prices of the things sold, and were laying them, at the feet of the apostles; and distribution was being made according as any one had need.

And the saying was pleasing to the multitude; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch; whom they set before the apostles; and, having prayed, they laid their hands on them.
