I saw a book in the right hand of him who sat on the throne. It had writing on the inside and on the back and was sealed with seven seals.
He slowly spread the scroll in front of me. There was writing on the front and back. There were funeral songs (dirges), songs of mourning and horrible things written on it.
He said: Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you, and fill your stomach with it. So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.
He held a little book that lay open in his hand. He placed his right foot on the sea, and his left foot on the earth.
The voice I heard from heaven spoke to me again, and said: Go take the little book that is open in the hand of the angel who stands upon the sea and upon the earth. I went to the angel, and said to him: Give me the little book. He said to me: Take it, and eat it up! It will be sweet as honey in your mouth, but it will make your belly bitter. So I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it. It was in my mouth sweet as honey and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
I opened my eyes again and I saw a flying scroll. He asked me: What do you see? I said: I see a flying scroll. It is thirty feet long and fifteen feet wide.
He came to the one who sat on the throne and received the book from his right hand.
They sing a new song, saying: You are worthy to take the book, and to open the seals, for you were slaughtered and by your blood you bought persons for God out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
