Jesus was at table indoors, and many taxgatherers and sinners had come to be guests with him and his disciples. So when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with taxgatherers and sinners?" When Jesus heard it he said, "Those who are strong have no need of a doctor, but those who are ill.

Then came a holiday, when Herod held a feast on his birthday for his chief officials and generals and the notables of Galilee.

Levi held a great banquet for him in his house; there was a large company present of taxgatherers and others who were guests along with them.

Then he said, "Now draw some out, and take it to the manager of the feast." They did so;

They gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with pieces of the five loaves left over from the meal.

but they pressed him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is getting towards evening and the day has now declined." So he went in to stay with them.

They gave a supper for him there; Martha waited on him, and Lazarus was among those who reclined at table beside him.
