I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.
For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through perseverance and the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.
As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming.

Avoid godless chatter, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness,
But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and quarrels about the Law, for they are unprofitable and useless.
