The Spirit is that which makes alive; the flesh profits nothing; the words which I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who he was that would betray him. And on that account he said, I told you that no one can come to me unless it has been given him by my Father.

For by grace are you saved through the faith; and that not of you; [it is] the gift of God; not of works, that no one may boast;

And he said to them, Who say you that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonas, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven.

Faith therefore comes by the report, and the report by the word of God.

This man came for a testimony, to testify of the light, that all might believe through him.
