For this deserves thanks, if on account of a knowledge of God one endures pain, suffering unjustly. For what glory is it if when you sin and are punished you bear it patiently? But if you do well and suffer and bear it patiently, [this deserves thanks], for it is acceptable to God.
for not he that commends himself is approved, but he whom the Lord commends.
And the lord praised the unjust steward, because he did wisely; for the children of this life are wiser, for their generation, than the children of light.
And he wishing to go into Achaia, the brothers sent him, and wrote to the disciples to receive him. And when he came he helped those much who had believed through the grace;

Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some, commendatory epistles to you or from you?
I have become foolish; you compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you; for in nothing am I behind the chief of the apostles, though I also am nothing.
neither did we seek glory of men, either of you or of others, when we might have been burdensome as apostles of Christ;
to governors, sent by him for the punishment of evil doers and the praise of those who do well;
For we do not again commend ourselves to you, but give you occasion to glory on our account, that you may have something for those that glory in appearance and not in heart.
but in every thing commending ourselves as ministers of God, in great patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, in stripes, in imprisonments, in dissensions, in labors, in watchings, in fastings, in purity, in knowledge, in long-suffering, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in love unfeigned,read more.
in the word of truth, in the power of God; with the arms of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, with honor and dishonor, with evil report and good report; as deceivers and true, as unknown and well-known, as dying and behold we live, as chastened and not killed, as grieving but always rejoicing, as poor but making many rich, as having nothing and possessing all things.
