But Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God.

No one recalls, nor is there knowledge or understanding to say, “I have burned half of it in the fire and also have baked bread over its coals. I roast meat and eat it. Then I make the rest of it into an abomination, I fall down before a block of wood!”

Being then the children of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and thought of man. Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent,

being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;

not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,

But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know the One who sent Me.

These things they will do because they have not known the Father or Me.

Pour out Your wrath upon the nations which do not know You,
And upon the kingdoms which do not call upon Your name.

dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
