for when they knew God, they did not glorify him as God. They did not thank him and were vain in their reasoning, for their foolish hearts were darkened.
The wicked proudly persecutes the poor people. He will be caught in the schemes that he contrived. The wicked person boasts about his selfish desires. He blesses the covetous, which Jehovah abhors. In his arrogant attitude he does not search for God. His faulty reasoning concludes: There is no God.
Their minds were blinded. Until this day the same veil remains at the reading of the old covenant. It is not revealed to them that Christ voided it.
This I say therefore, and testify (affirm) in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the nations also walk, in the vanity (futility) (depravity) of their mind (thinking). They are darkened (blinded) (obscured) in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart.
To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure. Both their mind and their conscience are defiled.
Your eyes will see strange things and your heart (and mind) will utter perverse things.
The god of this age (world) (religious, social, political, and economic arrangement) has blinded the minds of unbelievers that the light of the good news of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine on them.
You were once dead because of your trespasses and sins. You once walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the power (authority and jurisdiction) of the air, the spirit that is now active in the sons of disobedience. We all once lived in the lust of our flesh, indulging the desires (lusts) of the flesh and of the mind. We were by nature children of anger and violent passion, like everyone else.
Jehovah hates these six things: Yes, seven are an abomination to him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that run quickly to badness,
Jehovah said: If they become one people speaking the same language, nothing will be impossible for them. They have begun to do this.
He plans wickedness upon his bed. He walks on a path that is not good. He does not despise evil.
They are determined to do evil, and they tell themselves: Let us set traps! No one can see us. They devise evil plans and say: We will commit the perfect crime. The thoughts and the heart of man are deep.
Fraud is in his heart, he devises mischief continually; he sows discord.
Deceit is in the heart of those who contrive evil, but the counselors of peace have joy.
Do they not err that devise evil? Those who devise good will find loving kindness and truth.
