Nun I have been young and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful and lends, and his seed is a blessing.
For the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore, I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor and to thy needy, in thy land.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Do not say unto thy neighbour, Go and come again and tomorrow I will give when thou hast it by thee.
Give to him that asks of thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
If there should be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy towns in thy land which the LORD thy God gives thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother, but thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he lacks.
And if thy brother becomes poor and comes unto thee, then thou shalt receive him; as a stranger, or a sojourner, he shall live with thee. Take thou no usury of him, or increase; but thou shalt have the fear of thy God, and thy brother shall live with thee.
For ye have the poor with you always, and whenever ye will, ye may do them good; but me ye have not always.
And if ye lend to those of whom ye hope to receive, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much again. But rather love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great; and ye shall be the sons of the Most High, for he is kind even unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.
For when the LORD thy God has blessed thee, as he promised thee, thou shalt lend unto many Gentiles, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt rule over many Gentiles, but they shall not rule over thee.
The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven, to give the rain unto thy land in its season and to bless all the work of thine hand. And thou shalt lend unto many Gentiles, and thou shalt not borrow. And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail, and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath, when thou shalt hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to keep them and to fulfill them.
And there were some that said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards. Yet now, given that the flesh of our brethren is as our flesh and their sons as our sons, behold, we subject our sons and our daughters to slavery, and there are some of our daughters in bondage already; neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.
And if anyone borrows anything of his neighbour, and it is hurt or dies, its owner not being with it, he shall surely make it good.
But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water, and he cried and said, Alas, master! It was borrowed.
Behold, the LORD makes the earth empty and makes it naked and turns it upside down and scatters abroad its inhabitants. And it shall be, as with the people so with the priest; as with the slave so with his master; as with the maid so with her mistress; as with the buyer so with the seller; as with the lender so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury so with the giver of usury to him.
Take thou no usury of him, or increase; but thou shalt have the fear of thy God, and thy brother shall live with thee. Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy food for increase.
If thou should lend money to my people, to the poor who is with thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.
Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother, usury of money, usury of food, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury.
He that does not put out his money to usury nor take a bribe against the innocent. He that does these things shall never be moved.
neither lends at interest, neither takes any increase, withdraws his hand from iniquity, executes true judgment between man and man,
Give to everyone that asks of thee, and of the one that takes away thy goods ask them not to return them. And as ye desire that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
He that gives unto the poor lends unto the LORD, and he will give him his reward.
And if anyone says unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord has need of him, and straightway he will send him here.
