A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink." For His disciples had gone into the town to buy some food. Jesus answered her, "If you just knew what God has to give and who it is that said to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have been the one to ask Him, and He would have given you living water." She said to Him, "You have nothing to draw with, sir, and the well is deep. Where do you get your living water? You are not greater than our forefather Jacob, are you, who gave us this well, and drank from it himself, with all his sons and flocks?" Jesus answered her, "Anyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never, no never, be thirsty again, for the water that I will give him will become a spring of water that keeps on bubbling up within him for eternal life." The woman said to Him, "Give me this water at once, sir, so I may never get thirsty again, nor have to come so far to draw water." He said to her, "Go and call your husband and come back here." The woman answered, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You were right in saying, 'I have no husband,' for you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true." The woman said to Him, "I see that you are a prophet. Our forefathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say that Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship Him." Jesus said to her, "Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans do not know what you are worshiping; we Jews do know what we are worshiping; for salvation comes from the Jews. But a time is coming -- indeed, it is already here -- when the real worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and reality, for the Father is looking for just such worshipers. God is a spiritual Being, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and reality." The woman said to Him, "I know that the Messiah is coming, the One who is called the Christ. When He comes, He will tell us everything." Jesus said to her, "I, the very one who is talking to you, am He!"

On the last day, the great day, of the feast, Jesus stood and cried aloud, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever continues to believe in me will have, as the Scripture says, rivers of living water continuously flowing from within him." By this He referred to the Spirit that those believing in Him were going to receive -- for the Spirit had not yet come, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

Then one of the elders addressed me and said, "Who are these people clothed in white robes, and where did they come from?" I answered him, "You know, my lord." He said to me: "These are the people who are coming through the great persecution, who have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. They will never again be hungry or thirsty, and never again will the sun strike them, or any scorching heat, because the Lamb who is in the center of the throne will be their Shepherd, and God will wipe every tear from their eyes."

He further said to me: "They have come true. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I myself, without cost, will give to anyone who is thirsty water from the springs of living water. Whoever conquers will come into possession of these things, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowards, the unfaithful, the polluted, the murderers, the sexually immoral, the practicers of magic, the worshipers of idols, and all liars will have their portion in the lake that keeps on burning with fire and brimstone. Then he showed me a river of living water, clear as crystal, which continued to flow from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the city's Broadway. On both sides of the river grew the tree of life, which bore twelve kinds of fruit, yielding a different kind each month, and its leaves contained the remedy to cure the nations.

He measured its wall, two hundred and sixteen feet as a man measures, which is the way the angel measured.
