I know my own, and my own know me. Just as the Father knows me I know the Father! I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I will also bring them. They will hear my voice and they will become one flock, one shepherd. The Father loves me. Therefore I lay down my life and I take it back again. No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down voluntarily. I have authority (jurisdiction) (right) to lay it down, and I have authority to take it again. I have received this commandment from my Father. The Jews were again divided because of what Jesus said. Many of them said: He has a demon and is mad. Why listen to him? Others said: These are not the sayings of one possessed with a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind? It was the feast of the dedication at Jerusalem. It was wintertime. Jesus was walking in the temple on Solomon's porch (the Colonnade of Solomon). The Jews came to him and asked: How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus replied: I told you and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness of me. You do not believe because you are not my sheep! My sheep hear my voice. I know them and they follow me.
