The Church, however, throughout the whole of Judaea, Galilee and Samaria, had peace and was spiritually built up; and grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord and receiving encouragement from the Holy Spirit.

So He bade all the people sit down on the ground, and He took the seven loaves and the fish, and after giving thanks He broke them up and then distributed them to the disciples, and they to the people. And they all ate and were satisfied. The broken portions that remained over they took up--seven full hampers. Those who ate were 4,000 adult men, without reckoning women and children. He then dismissed the people, went on board the boat, and came into the district of Magadan.

The Jewish Festival, the Passover, was at hand. And when He looked round and saw an immense crowd coming towards Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for all these people to eat?" He said this to put Philip to the test, for He Himself knew what He was going to do. "Seven pounds' worth of bread," replied Philip, "is not enough for them all to get even a scanty meal." One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, "There is a boy here with five barley loaves and a couple of fish: but what is that among so many?" "Make the people sit down," said Jesus. The ground was covered with thick grass; so they sat down, the adult men numbering about 5,000. Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were resting on the ground; and also the fish in like manner--as much as they desired. When all were fully satisfied, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the broken portions that remain over, so that nothing be lost." Accordingly they gathered them up; and with the fragments of the five barley loaves--the broken portions that remained over after they had done eating--they filled twelve baskets. Thereupon the people, having seen the miracle He had performed, said, "This is indeed the Prophet who was to come into the world." Perceiving, however, that they were about to come and carry Him off by force to make Him a king, Jesus withdrew again up the hill alone by Himself.
saying, "Assuredly I will bless you and bless you, I will increase you and increase you."
About this time, as the number of disciples was increasing, complaints were made by the Greek-speaking Jews against the Hebrews because their widows were habitually overlooked in the daily ministration.
