All things came into being through him, and apart from him nothing that exists came into being.
for in him was the universe created, things in heaven and on earth, the seen and the unseen, thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; by him and for him all have been created;
He being an emanation of God's glory and stamp of his substance, and upholding the universe by the utterances of his power, after by himself making purification of our sins, has taken his seat on the right hand of the Majesty on High.
Hence also he is able to continue saving to the uttermost those who are ever drawing near to God through him, seeing that he is ever living to intercede for them.
Now when Jesus had finished his discourse, the crowds were astounded at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes taught them.
They were deeply impressed by his teaching because his speech was with authority.
But the men were amazed, saying, "What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?"
One day he was teaching, and near to him were seated Pharisees and teachers of the Law, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was with him to heal.
And when he had called his twelve disciples to him, he gave them power over evil spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and infirmity.
Moreover these signs shall follow those who believe. They shall drive out demons in my name; they shall speak with new tongues in foreign languages; they shall pick up serpents, and if they drink any poison it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover."
Then the Seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord even the demons are subject to us in your name."
"But that you may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins"??e then says to the paralytic, "Rise, take up your bed, and go to your home."
"Him God has exalted at his right hand as Prince and Saviour, to give Israel repentance and forgiveness of sins.
"For just as the Father raises the dead and makes them alive, even so the Son makes whom he will alive.
since thou hast given him authority over all mankind, to give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him.
"Do not wonder at this, because an hour is coming in which all who are in their graves shall hear his voice and shall come forth again; "those who have done good into a resurrection of life, and those who have practised evil to a resurrection of condemnation.
"Destroy this temple," answered Jesus, "and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews retorted, "This Temple took forty-six years to build, and will you 'raise it in three days'?" But he was speaking about the temple of his body; and when the disciples recalled what he had said,
"No man is taking it away from me. I am laying it down on my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it again. I received this commandment from my Father."
I have said all this to you that in me you might have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be courageous; I have overcome the world."
Principalities and powers he disarmed, and openly displayed them as his trophies, when he triumphed over them in the cross.
Therefore, since the children are sharers in flesh and blood, he also similarly partook of the same, in order that through death he might render powerless him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
He who is committing sin is of the devil, because from the beginning of the devil is sinning. It was for this cause that the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
