And they send to Him their disciples along with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art a man of truth, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest for any man; for thou regardest not the person of men: Tell us therefore what thou thinkest, Is it lawful to give tribute to Cesar, or not? But Jesus knew their malice, and said, Why do ye tempt me, ye hypocrites?read more.
Shew me the tribute-money. And they brought Him a Roman Penny. And He saith unto them, Whose image and inscription is this? They answered, Cesar's. Then saith He unto them, Render therefore to Cesar the things that are Cesar's; and to God the things that are God's. And when they heard this, they marvelled, and left Him and went away. On the same day came the sadducees to Him, who say there is no resurrection, and asked Him, saying, Master, Moses said, If any man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed unto his brother. Now there were with us seven brothers, and the first married and died, and having no issue left his wife to his brother; likewise the second also, and the third, even to seven; and last of all the woman died also; therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. But Jesus answered them, Ye are mistaken, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God: for in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels of God in heaven. But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read what is spoken to you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. And when the people heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine. But when the pharisees heard that He had silenced the sadducees, they gathered together again, and one of them, an interpreter of the law, propounded a question, to try Him, and said, Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law? And Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind: this is the first and great command. And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two precepts depend all the law and the prophets.

Pilate therefore went into the palace again, and called Jesus and said to Him, Art thou the king of the Jews? Jesus answered him, Dost thou say this from thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? Pilate replied, Am I a Jew? thine own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee to me: what hast thou done?read more.
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have fought, that I might not have been delivered to the Jews: but my kingdom is not from hence. Pilate therefore said unto Him, Art thou then a king? Jesus answered, Thou sayest right, I am a king. For this end was I born, and for this came I into the world, even that I might bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto Him, What is truth? And as soon as he had spoke, he went out again to the Jews,

At that time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who is to be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus calling to Him a little child, set it in the midst of them, and said, Verily I declare unto you, unless ye be converted, and become like little children, ye shall never enter into the kingdom of heaven.read more.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he shall be greatest in the kingdom of heaven: and whoever shall receive one such little child for my sake, receiveth me: but whosoever shall lay a stumbling-block in the way of one of these little ones, who believe in me, it were better for him that a milstone were hung on his neck, and that he were thrown into the sea.

Being therefore come together they asked Him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?

Now while the pharisees were thus gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, What think ye of the Messiah? whose son is He? They say unto Him, David's. He saith unto them, How then does David by inspiration call Him Lord,read more.
