When therefore they had breakfasted, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these? He said to him, Yes, Lord, you know that I am a friend to you. I tell you most truly, that when you were young you girded yourself and walked where you would; but when you become old, you shall stretch out your hands and another shall bind you and carry you where you would not; but he said this signifying by what death he should glorify God; and having said this, he said to him, Follow me.

And you being dead in trespasses and sins,??2 in which you formerly walked according to the life of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit which now operates in the children of disobedience, among whom also we all formerly lived in the desires of our flesh, performing the wishes of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath even as others; but God who is rich in mercy, on account of his great love with which he loved us,??5 even when we were dead in sins he made us alive with Christ,??y grace are you saved,

not by works of righteousness which we did but according to his mercy he saved us through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, which he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

And when he has come, he will convince the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they believe not on me; and of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you behold me no more;read more.

And hearing [this] they were distressed in mind, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brothers, what shall we do?

that our gospel came not to you in word only, but with power and with the Holy Spirit and with full assurance, as you know what we were among you for your sakes.

For which cause I admonish you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the imposition of my hands.

But Peter standing up with the eleven lifted up his voice and said to them, Men of Judea, and all who live at Jerusalem, be this known to you, and attend to my words.
