The men who had Jesus in custody flogged him and made sport of him, and they blindfolded him, and asked him, "Show that you are a prophet! Who was it that struck you?" And they said many other abusive things to him.

Then they spat in his face and struck him, and others slapped him, saying, "Show us you are a prophet, you Christ! Who was it that struck you?"

He had discussions at the synagogue with the Jews and those who worshiped with them, and every day in the public square with any whom he happened to find. Still others had to endure taunts and blows, and even fetters and prison.
