And the Pharisees went out and questioned him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, to try him. And groaning in his spirit, he said, Why does this generation seek a sign? I tell you truly, there shall no sign be given to this generation.

Then answered some of the scribes and Pharisees, saying, Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you. But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, and no sign shall be given it but the sign of the prophet Jonah.

And multitudes being assembled, he said, This generation is an evil generation. It seeks for a sign, and no sign shall be given it but the sign of Jonah.

And he also said to the multitudes, When you see a cloud rise in the west you immediately say, There comes a shower; and it is so. And when the south wind blows you say, There will be heat; and there is. Hypocrites! You know how to distinguish the appearance of the earth and sky, and how do you not distinguish this time?

And when Herod saw Jesus he was much pleased; for he had wished for a long time to see him, because he had heard about him, and he hoped to see some miracle performed by him.

Then the Jews answered and said to him, What sign do you show us, that you do these things?

Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see miracles and prodigies you will not believe.

Then they said to him, What miracle do you perform, that we may see and believe you? what work do you perform?
