as it is written: "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, down to this very day."

And do this, knowing the hour, that now it is full time for you to wake from sleep. For now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.

For this reason it is said, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works perfect in the sight of my God.

("Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.")

Watch and pray, so that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

"But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch; for you do not know when the time will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch.

Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and petition. And with this in view, keep alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us be alert and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But, since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

Be sober, be alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
