Then I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Go on taking your ease; continue to eat, drink, and enjoy yourself."' But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul is to be demanded of you. Then who will have all that you have prepared?' So it is with the man who continues to pile up possessions for himself, and is not rich in God."
But another one came in and said, 'Here is your twenty dollars, sir, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief. For I lived in constant dread of you, because you are a stern man, you pick up what you did not put down, you reap what you did not sow.' He said to him, 'On the ground of what you say I will sentence you, you wicked slave! You knew that I was a stern man, that I picked up what I did not put down, and reaped what I did not sow.read more.
So why did you not put my money into the bank? In that case, when I came back I could have gotten interest on my principal.'
But keep on storing up your riches in heaven where moths and rust do not make away with them and where thieves do not break in and steal them.
Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; then come back here and follow me."
Sell your property and give to charity. Provide for yourselves purses that will never wear out, riches that never fail in heaven, where a thief cannot come near nor a moth destroy, For wherever your treasure is, there too your heart will be.
Continue charging the rich of this world to stop being haughty and not to fix their hope on a thing so uncertain as riches, but on God who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment; charge them to continue doing good and being rich in good deeds, open-handed and generous hearted, in this way amassing for themselves the riches that forever endure in the life to come, so that at last they may grasp the life that is life indeed.
But in your stubbornness and impenitence of heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath, when the justice of God's judgments will be uncovered.
But by the same command the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire and are kept for the day when godless men are to be doomed and destroyed.
Such men are dried-up springs, clouds driven by the storm, and they are doomed to densest darkness.
