'Courtyards' in the Bible
The Lord did as Moses had said: the frogs in the houses, courtyards, and fields died.
He built altars to the whole heavenly host in both courtyards of the Lord’s temple.
He removed from the entrance to the Lord's temple the statues of horses that the kings of Judah had placed there in honor of the sun god. (They were kept near the room of Nathan Melech the eunuch, which was situated among the courtyards.) He burned up the chariots devoted to the sun god.

Their job was to help Aaron's descendants in the service of the Lord's temple. They were to take care of the courtyards, the rooms, ceremonial purification of all holy items, and other jobs related to the service of God's temple.
