'Herbs' in the Bible
They shall eat the meat that same night, roasted in fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
On the fourteenth day of the second month [thirty days later] at twilight, they shall observe it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, “Give me your vineyard, so that I may have it for a garden of vegetables and herbs, because it is near my house. I will give you a better vineyard for it, or, if you prefer, I will give you what it is worth in money.”
Then one [of them] went into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it a lapful of wild gourds, and came and cut them up into the pot of stew, although they did not know what they were.
Better is a dinner of vegetables and herbs where love is presentThan a fattened ox served with hatred.
When the grass is gone, the new growth is seen,And herbs of the mountain are gathered in,
“His cheeks are like a bed of balsam,Banks of sweet, fragrant herbs.His lips are liliesDripping sweet-scented myrrh.
How long must the land mournAnd the grass of the countryside wither?Because of the wickedness and hypocrisy of those who live in it,The beasts and the birds are consumed and are swept away [by the drought],Because men [mocking me] have said, “He will not [live long enough to] see [what happens at] our final end.”
