'Sick' in the Bible

So Rebekah said to Isaac, “I’m sick of my life because of these Hittite women. If Jacob marries a Hittite woman like one of them, what good is my life?”

When Saul sent agents to seize David, Michal said, “He’s sick.”

Then David said to him, “Who do you belong to? Where are you from?”“I’m an Egyptian, the slave of an Amalekite man,” he said. “My master abandoned me when I got sick three days ago.

Amnon was frustrated to the point of making himself sick over his sister Tamar because she was a virgin, but it seemed impossible to do anything to her.

So Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick. When the king came to see him, Amnon said to him, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my presence so I can eat from her hand.”

At that time Abijah son of Jeroboam became sick.

But the Lord had said to Ahijah, “Jeroboam’s wife is coming soon to ask you about her son, for he is sick. You are to say such and such to her. When she arrives, she will be disguised.”

Elisha came to Damascus while Ben-hadad king of Aram was sick, and the king was told, “The man of God has come here.”

When Elisha became sick with the illness that he died from, Jehoash king of Israel went down and wept over him and said, “My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel!”

At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah since he heard that he had been sick.

In those days Hezekiah became sick to the point of death, so he prayed to the Lord, and He spoke to him and gave him a miraculous sign.

so the king said to me, “Why are you sad, when you aren’t sick? This is nothing but depression.”I was overwhelmed with fear

Yet when they were sick,my clothing was sackcloth;I humbled myself with fasting,and my prayer was genuine.

Delayed hope makes the heart sick,but fulfilled desire is a tree of life.

If you find honey, eat only what you need;otherwise, you’ll get sick from it and vomit.

Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house;otherwise, he’ll get sick of you and hate you.

and none there will say, “I am sick.”The people who dwell therewill be forgiven their iniquity.

A poem by Hezekiah king of Judah after he had been sick and had recovered from his illness:

At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah since he heard that he had been sick and had recovered.

Yet the Lord was pleased to crush Him severely.When You make Him a restitution offering,He will see His seed, He will prolong His days,and by His hand, the Lord’s pleasure will be accomplished.

My joy has flown away;grief has settled on me.My heart is sick.

The heart is more deceitful than anything else,and incurable—who can understand it?
