'Tongues' in the Bible
For there is nothing reliable in what they say;destruction is within them;their throat is an open grave;they flatter with their tongues.
They say, “Through our tongues we have power;our lips are our own—who can be our master?”
You hide them in the protection of Your presence;You conceal them in a shelterfrom the schemes of men,from quarrelsome tongues.
I am surrounded by lions;I lie down with those who devour men.Their teeth are spears and arrows;their tongues are sharp swords.
who sharpen their tongues like swordsand aim bitter words like arrows,
They will be made to stumble;their own tongues work against them.All who see them will shake their heads.
so that your foot may wade in bloodand your dogs’ tongues may have their sharefrom the enemies.”
They set their mouths against heaven,and their tongues strut across the earth.
But they deceived Him with their mouths,they lied to Him with their tongues,
For wicked and deceitful mouths open against me;they speak against me with lying tongues.
Our mouths were filled with laughter then,and our tongues with shouts of joy.Then they said among the nations,“The Lord has done great things for them.”
They make their tonguesas sharp as a snake’s bite;viper’s venom is under their lips.Selah
