'Age' in the Bible
As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age.
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; Sarah was past childbearing.
So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.
And she said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
Now Abraham was old, advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in every way.
Now Sarah my master’s wife bore a son to my master in her old age, and he has given him all that he has.
Abraham breathed his last and died in a ripe old age, an old man and satisfied with life; and he was gathered to his people.
Isaac breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, an old man of ripe age; and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
These are the records of the generations of Jacob.Joseph, when seventeen years of age, was pasturing the flock with his brothers while he was still a youth, along with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives. And Joseph brought back a bad report about them to their father.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a varicolored tunic.
We said to my lord, ‘We have an old father and a little child of his old age. Now his brother is dead, so he alone is left of his mother, and his father loves him.’
Now the eyes of Israel were so dim from age that he could not see. Then Joseph brought them close to him, and he kissed them and embraced them.
So Joseph died at the age of one hundred and ten years; and he was embalmed and placed in a coffin in Egypt.
But at the age of fifty years they shall retire from service in the work and not work any more.
Then Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of one hundred and ten.
And Gideon the son of Joash died at a ripe old age and was buried in the tomb of his father Joash, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
May he also be to you a restorer of life and a sustainer of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.”
Now King David was old, advanced in age; and they covered him with clothes, but he could not keep warm.
Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were dim because of his age.
Now the rest of all the acts of Asa and all his might and all that he did and the cities which he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.
Now when David reached old age, he made his son Solomon king over Israel.
But David did not count those twenty years of age and under, because the Lord had said He would multiply Israel as the stars of heaven.
Then he died in a ripe old age, full of days, riches and honor; and his son Solomon reigned in his place.
Now when Jehoiada reached a ripe old age he died; he was one hundred and thirty years old at his death.
“I thought age should speak,And increased years should teach wisdom.
Do not cast me off in the time of old age;Do not forsake me when my strength fails.
They will still yield fruit in old age;They shall be full of sap and very green,
Even to your old age I will be the same,And even to your graying years I will bear you!I have done it, and I will carry you;And I will bear you and I will deliver you.
“No longer will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days,Or an old man who does not live out his days;For the youth will die at the age of one hundredAnd the one who does not reach the age of one hundredWill be thought accursed.
I made you numerous like plants of the field. Then you grew up, became tall and reached the age for fine ornaments; your breasts were formed and your hair had grown. Yet you were naked and bare.
and the commander of the officials said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink; for why should he see your faces looking more haggard than the youths who are your own age? Then you would make me forfeit my head to the king.”
But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age.”
Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Old men and old women will again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each man with his staff in his hand because of age.
