'Dry' in the Bible
Therefore, as the tongue of fire consumes the stubble [from straw]And the dry grass collapses into the flame,So their root will become like rot and their blossom blow away like fine dust;Because they have rejected the law of the Lord of hostsAnd despised and discarded the word of the Holy One of Israel.
And the Lord will utterly destroyThe tongue of the Sea of Egypt;And with His scorching windHe will wave His hand over the River;He will strike and divide it into seven channelsAnd make [it possible for] people [to] walk over in sandals.
The waters from the sea will dry up,And the river will be parched and dry.
The meadows by the Nile, by the edge of the Nile,And all the sown fields of the NileWill become dry, be blown away, and be no more.
Like heat in a dry land, You will subdue the noise of foreigners [rejoicing over their enemies];Like heat in the shadow of a cloud, the song of the tyrants is silenced.
When its branches are dry, they are broken off;The women come and make a fire with them.For they are not a people of understanding,Therefore He who made them will not have compassion on them,And He who created them will not be gracious to them.
Each [one of them] will be like a hiding place from the windAnd a shelter from the storm,Like streams of water in a dry land,Like the shade of a huge rock in a parched and weary land [to those who turn to them].
The wilderness and the dry land will be glad;The Arabah (desert) will shout in exultation and blossomLike the autumn crocus.
“I will open rivers on the barren heightsAnd springs in the midst of the valleys;I will make the wilderness a reed-pool of waterAnd the dry land springs of water.
“I will lay waste the mountains and hillsAnd wither all their vegetation;I will turn the rivers into coastlandsAnd dry up the ponds.
‘For I will pour out water on him who is thirsty,And streams on the dry ground;I will pour out My Spirit on your offspringAnd My blessing on your descendants;
“It is I who says to the deep, ‘Be dried up!’And I will make your rivers dry.
“Why, when I came, was there no man [to greet Me]?When I called, why was there no one to answer?Is My hand really so short that it cannot redeem [My servants]?Or have I no power to rescue?Listen carefully, with My rebuke I dry up the sea,I make the rivers into a desert;Their fish stink because there is no waterAnd die of thirst.
For He [the Servant of God] grew up before Him like a tender shoot (plant),And like a root out of dry ground;He has no stately form or majestic splendorThat we would look at Him,Nor [handsome] appearance that we would be attracted to Him.
Do not let the foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say,“The Lord will most certainly separate me from His people.”And do not let the eunuch say, “Look, I am a dry tree.”
“And the Lord will continually guide you,And satisfy your soul in scorched and dry places,And give strength to your bones;And you will be like a watered garden,And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
