'Law' in the Bible
Now when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, Joseph and Mary brought Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
(just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male will be set apart to the Lord"),
and to offer a sacrifice according to what is specified in the law of the Lord, a pair of doves or two young pigeons.
So Simeon, directed by the Spirit, came into the temple courts, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what was customary according to the law,
So when Joseph and Mary had performed everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.
Now on one of those days, while he was teaching, there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting nearby (who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem), and the power of the Lord was with him to heal.
Then the experts in the law and the Pharisees began to think to themselves, "Who is this man who is uttering blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
But the Pharisees and their experts in the law complained to his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"
But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is against the law on the Sabbath?"
The experts in the law and the Pharisees watched Jesus closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a reason to accuse him.
However, the Pharisees and the experts in religious law rejected God's purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)
saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, and be killed, and on the third day be raised."
Now an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus, saying, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you understand it?"
The expert in religious law said, "The one who showed mercy to him." So Jesus said to him, "Go and do the same."
One of the experts in religious law answered him, "Teacher, when you say these things you insult us too."
But Jesus replied, "Woe to you experts in religious law as well! You load people down with burdens difficult to bear, yet you yourselves refuse to touch the burdens with even one of your fingers!
Woe to you experts in religious law! You have taken away the key to knowledge! You did not go in yourselves, and you hindered those who were going in."
When he went out from there, the experts in the law and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to ask him hostile questions about many things,
So Jesus asked the experts in religious law and the Pharisees, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?"
But the Pharisees and the experts in the law were complaining, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."
"The law and the prophets were in force until John; since then, the good news of the kingdom of God has been proclaimed, and everyone is urged to enter it.
But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tiny stroke of a letter in the law to become void.
Jesus was teaching daily in the temple courts. The chief priests and the experts in the law and the prominent leaders among the people were seeking to assassinate him,
Now one day, as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the gospel, the chief priests and the experts in the law with the elders came up
Then the experts in the law and the chief priests wanted to arrest him that very hour, because they realized he had told this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people.
Then some of the experts in the law answered, "Teacher, you have spoken well!"
"Beware of the experts in the law. They like walking around in long robes, and they love elaborate greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
The chief priests and the experts in the law were trying to find some way to execute Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.
When day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both the chief priests and the experts in the law. Then they led Jesus away to their council
The chief priests and the experts in the law were there, vehemently accusing him.
Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled."
