'Light' in the Bible

House of Jacob,come and let us walk in the Lord’s light.

Woe to those who call evil goodand good evil,who substitute darkness for lightand light for darkness,who substitute bitter for sweetand sweet for bitter.

On that day they will roar over it,like the roaring of the sea.When one looks at the land,there will be darkness and distress;light will be obscured by clouds.

The people walking in darknesshave seen a great light;a light has dawnedon those living in the land of darkness.

Israel’s Light will become a fire,and its Holy One, a flame.In one day it will burn up Assyria’s thorns and thistles.

Indeed, the stars of the sky and its constellationswill not give their light.The sun will be dark when it rises,and the moon will not shine.

The moonlight will be as bright as the sunlight, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter—like the light of seven days—on the day that the Lord bandages His people’s injuries and heals the wounds He inflicted.

“I, Yahweh, have called Youfor a righteous purpose,and I will hold You by Your hand.I will keep You and appoint Youto be a covenant for the peopleand a light to the nations,

I will lead the blind by a way they did not know;I will guide them on paths they have not known.I will turn darkness to light in front of themand rough places into level ground.This is what I will do for them,and I will not forsake them.

I form light and create darkness,I make success and create disaster;I, Yahweh, do all these things.

He says,“It is not enough for you to be My Servantraising up the tribes of Jacoband restoring the protected ones of Israel.I will also make you a light for the nations,to be My salvation to the ends of the earth.”

Who among you fears the Lord,listening to the voice of His Servant?Who among you walks in darkness,and has no light?Let him trust in the name of Yahweh;let him lean on his God.

Look, all you who kindle a fire,who encircle yourselves with firebrands;walk in the light of your fireand in the firebrands you have lit!This is what you’ll get from My hand:you will lie down in a place of torment.

Pay attention to Me, My people,and listen to Me, My nation;for instruction will come from Me,and My justice for a light to the nations.I will bring it about quickly.

Then your light will appear like the dawn,and your recovery will come quickly.Your righteousness will go before you,and the Lord’s glory will be your rear guard.

and if you offer yourself to the hungry,and satisfy the afflicted one,then your light will shine in the darkness,and your night will be like noonday.

Therefore justice is far from us,and righteousness does not reach us.We hope for light, but there is darkness;for brightness, but we live in the night.

Arise, shine, for your light has come,and the glory of the Lord shines over you.

Nations will come to your light,and kings to the brightness of your radiance.

The sun will no longer be your light by day,and the brightness of the moon will not shine on you;but the Lord will be your everlasting light,and your God will be your splendor.

Your sun will no longer set,and your moon will not fade;for the Lord will be your everlasting light,and the days of your sorrow will be over.

I will not keep silent because of Zion,and I will not keep still because of Jerusalem,until her righteousness shines like a bright lightand her salvation, like a flaming torch.
