Thematic Bible

Do not listen to prophets, mediums, and interpreters of dreams, fortunetellers, or sorcerers who tell you, 'You will never serve the king of Babylon.'

For the teraphim have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie. They have told false dreams! They comfort in vain. They go their way like sheep. They are afflicted because there is no shepherd.

This is what Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Do not let the prophets or the mediums among you trick you. Do not even listen to your own dreams.

If a prophet or an interpreter of dreams appears among you and gives you a sign or a wonder (portent) (omen) (forecast of the future), in order to lead you to worship and serve gods that you have not worshiped before, and even if what they promise comes true, do not listen to them. Jehovah your God is allowing them to test you. He will then know that you love Jehovah with all your heart. read more.
Follow Jehovah and respect him. Obey him and keep his commandments. Worship him and be faithful to him (stick to him) (stay close to him) (cleave, cling to him). Put to death any interpreters of dreams or prophets that tell you to rebel against Jehovah. For he (Jehovah) rescued you from Egypt, where you were slaves. Such people are evil and are trying to lead you away from the life that Jehovah has commanded you to live. They must be put to death, in order to get rid of this evil.

I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in my name. They say: 'I had a dream! I had a dream! How long? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets, who prophesy falsehood, even these prophets of the deception of their own heart? They think the dreams they tell will make my people forget my name, just as their ancestors forgot my name and turned to Baal worship. read more.
The prophet who has had a dream should say it is only a dream. The prophet who has heard my message should proclaim that message faithfully. What good is chaff compared with wheat? Says Jehovah. My message is like a fire and like a hammer that breaks rocks in pieces. I am against those prophets who take each other's words and proclaim them as my message. I am also against those prophets, says Jehovah, They speak their own words and claim they came from me! Listen to what I, Jehovah, say! I am against the prophets who tell their dreams that are full of lies. They tell these dreams and lead my people astray with their lies and their boasting. I did not send them or order them to go. They are of no help at all to the people. I Jehovah have spoken!

It will come to pass in the last days, says God, I will pour out from my Spirit upon all flesh. (Greek: apo, from) Your sons and your daughters will prophesy (proclaim God's Word). Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

He said: Listen to my words: 'When there are prophets of Jehovah among you, I make myself known to them in visions or speak to them in dreams.

The prophet who has had a dream should say it is only a dream. The prophet who has heard my message should proclaim that message faithfully. What good is chaff compared with wheat? Says Jehovah.

In the last days I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions! (Ac 2:17; Isa 44:3)

This is what it means, Joseph said to him. The three branches are three days. In the next three days Pharaoh will release you and restore you to your position. You will put Pharaoh's cup in his hand as you used to do when you were his cupbearer.

Joseph answered: This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days. In three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head from you. He will hang you on a tree, and the birds will eat your flesh off you.

Joseph said to Pharaoh: Pharaoh had the same dream twice. God has told Pharaoh what he is going to do. The seven good cows are seven years. The seven good heads of grain are seven years. It is all the same dream. The seven thin, sickly cows that came up behind them are seven years. The seven empty heads of grain scorched by the east wind are also seven years. Seven years of famine are coming! read more.
It is just as I said to Pharaoh. God has shown Pharaoh what he is going to do. Seven years are coming when there will be plenty of food in Egypt. Seven years of famine will follow. Then people will forget that there was plenty of food in Egypt. The famine will ruin the land. People will not remember that there was once plenty of food in the land, because the coming famine will be so severe. The reason Pharaoh has had a recurring dream is because the matter has been definitely decided by God. He will do it very soon.

Daniel made an appointment with the king so he could show the king the interpretation. Then Daniel went back to his house, and explained everything to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: that they would request mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret. And they would request that Daniel and his companions would not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. read more.
The secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Daniel praised the God of heaven. Daniel said: Praise be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are his. He changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals the deep and hidden things. He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. I thank you, and praise you, O God of my fathers. You have given me wisdom and might. You have made known to me what we desired from you. For you have made known to us the king's situation.

There is a God in heaven that reveals secrets. He made known to king Nebuchadnezzar what will be in days to come. Your dream and visions are these: As for you, O king, your thoughts while you were in bed were about what will happen in the future. He who reveals secrets revealed the future to you. Concerning me, this secret is not revealed to me to give me more wisdom than anyone else. It is for the purpose that the interpretation may be made known to the king; that you may know the thoughts of your mind.

So they set a date with Paul. A large number of them came that day to the place where Paul was staying. From morning till night he explained his message about the Kingdom of God to them. He tried to convince them about Jesus by quoting from the Law of Moses and the writings of the prophets. Some of them were convinced by his words, but others did not believe.

He became very hungry. While the meal was being prepared he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened, something like a great sheet lowered by the four corners was descending to the earth. In it were all kinds of animals, reptiles and birds. read more.
Peter heard a voice say: Kill and eat. But Peter said: No Lord for I have never eaten any thing that is defiled or unclean. The voice spoke to him again the second time: You stop calling defiled that which God has cleansed. This happened a third time and immediately the sheet was taken up to heaven.

Eliphaz of Teman continued: I was told something secretly and heard something whispered in my ear. I am with disturbing thoughts from visions in the night, when deep sleep falls on people. Fear and trembling came over me, and all my bones shook. read more.
A spirit passed in front of me. It made my hair stand on end. Something stood there. I could not tell what it was. A vague image was in front of my eyes. I heard a soft voice say: Can any mortal be righteous to God? Can any human being be pure to his maker? You see God does not trust his own servants. He accuses his angels of making mistakes. How much more will he accuse those who live in clay houses that have their foundation in the dust? Those houses can be crushed quicker than a moth! From morning to evening, they are shattered. They will disappear forever without anyone noticing. Have the ropes of their tent been loosened? Will they die without wisdom?

Once, when the flocks were mating, I dreamed that all the rams were either spotted or speckled. Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, 'Jacob.' I said, here I am. He said, 'Look up and see, now (please), that all the male goats that are mating are striped, speckled, or spotted, because I have seen everything that Laban is doing to you. read more.
I am the God of Bethel. That is where you anointed a pillar and made a vow to me. Arise and leave this land. Return to the land of your birth.'

Solomon loved Jehovah. He followed the instructions of his father David. He also slaughtered animals and offered them as sacrifices on different altars. One time he went to Gibeon to offer sacrifices because that was where the most used altar was. He offered hundreds of burnt offerings there in the past. That night Jehovah appeared to him in a dream and asked him: What do you want me to give you? read more.
Solomon answered: You always showed great love for my father David, your servant. He was good, loyal, and honest in his relation with you. You have continued to show him your great and constant love by giving him a son who today rules in his place. O Jehovah God, you allowed me to succeed my father as king, even though I am very young and do not know how to rule. I am among the people you have chosen to be your own. They are a people who are so many that they cannot be counted. Give me the wisdom I need to rule your people with justice. Help me know the difference between good and evil. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours? Jehovah was pleased that Solomon asked for this. He said to him: Because you have asked for the wisdom to rule justly, instead of long life for yourself or riches or the death of your enemies, I will do what you have asked. I will give you more wisdom and understanding than anyone has ever had. There has never been nor will ever be anyone like you. I will also give you what you did not ask for. All your life you will have wealth and honor, more than that of any other king. If you obey me and keep my laws and commands, as your father David did, I will give you a long life. Solomon woke up and was aware that God had spoken to him in the dream. Then he went to Jerusalem and stood in front of Jehovah's Ark of the Covenant. He offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to Jehovah. Then he gave a feast for all his officials.

Joseph had this in mind when God's angel appeared to him in a dream. The angel said to him: Joseph, descendant of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. She is pregnant by Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus (Jehovah (YHWH) is salvation), because he will save his people from their sins.

So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. He said: In my dream a grapevine with three branches appeared in front of me. Soon after it sprouted it blossomed. Then its clusters ripened into grapes. read more.
Pharaoh's cup was in my hand. I took the grapes and squeezed them into it. I put the cup in Pharaoh's hand. This is what it means, Joseph said to him. The three branches are three days. In the next three days Pharaoh will release you and restore you to your position. You will put Pharaoh's cup in his hand as you used to do when you were his cupbearer. Remember me when things go well for you. Please do me a favor. Mention me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this prison. I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews. And here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the dungeon. When the chief baker saw that he had interpreted favorably, he said to Joseph: I also saw in my dream three baskets of white bread on my head. The top basket contained all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh. The birds were eating them out of the basket on my head. Joseph answered: This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days. In three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head from you. He will hang you on a tree, and the birds will eat your flesh off you. It happened on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday that he made a feast for all his servants. He lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. He restored the chief cupbearer to his office, and he put the cup into Pharaoh's hand. He did indeed hang the chief baker, just as Joseph had interpreted to them. Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph. In fact he forgot him.

Do you think you are going to be a king and rule over us? his brothers asked. So they hated him even more because of his dreams and because of what he said about them. Joseph had another dream and told his brothers: I had another dream, in which I saw the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowing down to me. He also told the dream to his father. His father scolded him. What kind of a dream is that? Do you think that your mother, your brothers, and I are going to come and bow down to you?

The multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel (Jerusalem) will be like a bad dream, a vision in the night. Many will fight against her and bring distress to her. It will be like a hungry man who dreams that he eats. But when he awakes he is empty and still hungry! It will also be like a thirsty man who dreams that he drinks. When he awakes he is thirsty and weak and hungry. The multitude of nations that fight against Mount Zion will be like this.

Two years later Pharaoh had a dream. He dreamed he was standing by the Nile River. Suddenly, seven nice-looking well-fed cows came up from the river and began to graze among the reeds. Seven other cows came up from the river behind them. These cows were sickly and skinny. They stood behind the first seven cows on the riverbank. read more.
The cows that were sickly and skinny ate the seven nice-looking well-fed cows. Then Pharaoh woke up. He fell asleep again and had another dream. Seven heads of grain, full and ripe, were growing on one stalk. Then seven other heads of grain sprouted thin and scorched by the desert wind. The thin heads of grain swallowed the full ones. The king woke up and realized that he had been dreaming. The king was upset the next morning. So he called his magicians and wise men and told them what he had dreamed. None of them could tell him what the dreams meant. The king's chief cupbearer said: Now I remember what I was supposed to do. When you were angry with your chief cook and me, you threw us both in jail in the house of the captain of the guard. One night we both had dreams. Each dream had a different meaning. A young Hebrew, who was a servant of the captain of the guard, was there with us at the time. When we told him our dreams, he explained what each of them meant. Everything happened just as he said it would. I got my job back, and the cook was put to death. So the king sent for Joseph. He was quickly brought out of jail. He shaved, changed his clothes, and went to the king. The king said: I had a dream. No one can explain what it means. I am told that you can interpret dreams. Joseph then answered Pharaoh: I cannot do it myself, but God can give the meaning of your dreams. The king told Joseph: I dreamed as I stood on the bank of the Nile River, I saw seven fat, healthy cows come up out of the river. They began feeding on the grass. Next, seven skinny, bony cows came up out of the river. I have never seen such terrible looking cows anywhere in Egypt. The skinny cows ate the fat ones! Even though they had eaten the fat cows, no one could tell they had eaten them. They looked just as sick as before. Then I woke up. In my second dream I saw seven good, full heads of grain growing on a single stalk. Seven other heads of grain, withered, thin, and scorched by the east wind, sprouted behind them. The thin heads of grain swallowed the seven good heads. I told this to the magicians, but no one could tell me what it meant. Pharaoh should look for a wise and intelligent man and put him in charge of Egypt. Make arrangements to appoint supervisors over the land. Take a fifth of Egypt's harvest during the seven good years. Have them collect all the food during these good years. Store up grain under Pharaoh's control, to be kept for food in the cities. This food will be a reserve supply for our country during the seven years of famine that will happen in Egypt. Then the land will not be ruined by the famine.

About the ninth hour of the day he clearly saw a vision. An angel of God came to him and said, Cornelius. He looked at him and was afraid. What is it, Lord? He replied.
